Intention

With New Years coming up, most people set some sort of resolution for the new year. Personally, I think every 1st of the month, every Monday even, is an opportunity for a new resolution, however I’m not really into resolutions.

I’ve set them in the past and I’ve actually never kept any of them for longer than a couple months. Last year, I did something else, I set an intention for the New Year.

Honestly, I didn’t quite understand what that meant until I started coaching at Orangetheory and I’d ask clients to set an intention of what they wanted there all out (or sprint) speed to be. When I tell them to set an intention, I want them to think about where they want to be and how they’re going to get there. For the first sprint, you go 85-90% effort and each one after should match or slightly beat the speed from the previous sprint. Your final sprit should be your max effort, every bit of energy of effort of strength you have, you leave all of that on the tread. Now, you might not get to the speed you ultimately want to be at, but you’re closer than you were before. If you take this approach for each class, soon you will meet your speed goal. It’s the intent that you will make it by having a plan that will get you from one place to another.

This can apply to real life too. It means formulating a plan on how to accomplish your end goal. It means visualizing where you want to be and the steps you’ll need to take to get you there. Even if you don’t get to your end goal, you’re much closer to it then you were when you started. We still have 3 days to come up with an intention or 2 and formulate a couple steps on how to start each one.

Hello

For my first post, I thought I’d give you a little background on who I am and what I’m doing both on here and in life (or at least attempting to do). I’m the eldest of 4 (my siblings kick ass), I have an 11 month old cavalier, (her name is Olive), I’m from Northern California (go Giants, Warriors, and the 9ers), and clearly grew up playing sports and being active.img_3851

I moved to Southern California for school and haven’t left. That’s where I started teaching barre fitness classes which grew to include personal training and coaching at Orangetheory. I’m not sure what my 5, 3, or 1 year plan look like, all I know is I want to directly help people through fitness and wellness. I want to enable them to realize their strength and capabilities surpass what they imagine.c992c2a4dde8290db5ae67a37658e3bf As the quote goes, “I didn’t always know what I wanted to do, but I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be.” That seems to be somewhat fitting to this 20 something stage of life because I don’t know what I want to do, however, I know I want to live with integrity and authenticity. I want to make everyone feel like they matter (because they do) and I want to fiercely push people in the direction of their dreams.

With that being said, I’ve wanted to start a blog for quite sometime. It’s a place I can share ideas, moments, but mainly, it holds me responsible to my word. I have to follow through because I’ve put my intention out into the universe. I remember writing a gratitude blog for a course in school, having to sit down, sort out my feels, and set intentions actually made me more grateful. The posts and the thought allowed me to see those moments of positivity and hold them close. I’m hoping this blog will allow me to be a bit more positive and open, as well as follow through on the ideas I have!

So here I go…

Sarah:)
